Salome was the wife of Zebedee (Zabdia) and sister of the virgin Mary. The fact that she was one of those who ministered to the Lord of her substance, followed Jesus in Galilee and also brought large stores of spices for his grave, are additional signs that Zebedee and his wife were not poor.

The sons of Zebedee and Salome were James and John, who were thus first cousins of the Lord. Salome was devoted to Jesus and was one of the women who anointed Jesus' body with spices after the crucifixion.
