Geoffrey Chaucer
Geoffrey Chaucer lived between 1340 and 1400 and was the author of the Canterbury Tales. Chaucer was the first of the great English poets. Canterbury Tales was composed during the latter years of the 14th century. It is, on the one hand, a glorification of the medieval society composed of
clergy, nobility and commoners; on the other hand, it is a shrewd depiction of individual
follies and vices, which suggest a decline in medieval society and its institutions.
