John Adams

John Adams was the second American President and a leader of the American Revolution. He lived between 1735 and 1826. Many early Puritan leaders regarded themselves the chosen people of God and preferred pure English stock, not tainted with corruption. Adam's type of puritanism was not orthodox Calvinist but more of the Unitarian variety.

As to usurping other's rights, all three forms of government, democratic, aristocratic and monarchical, were equally guilty when unlimited in power. Hamilton wanted a capitalistic state, Adams felt no justice or stability unless each class was prevented from exploiting the other. "The only remedy is to throw the rich and the proud into one group, in a separate assembly, and there tie their hands or they will destroy all liberty and equality."
[211, 243]
