The Ascension of Jesus

The ascension of Jesus was the visible ascent of Christ to heaven. It was Jesus' real human nature that ascended; and he thus triumphed gloriously over death and hell, as head of his body the church. "Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors, and the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of Glory? The Lord of Hosts, he is the King of Glory. And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel.. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be there also."

His glorious withdrawal, to his bodily presence, from the earth and entrance, as the God-man and mediatorial King into heaven. This happened from the Mount of Olives 40 days after the resurrection. You have ascended on high, You have led captivity captive: You have received gifts from men; yes, for the rebellious also, that the Lord God might dwell among them. [380, Psalms, Acts, BD, John]
