The rich are necessary as a market for useless objects - objects which answer no compelling need of existence. The desire to be rich is to choose against faith and despise the poor. This is the hour of the luke-warm church that will be vomited out of God's mouth. "Because you say, 'I am rich and increased with goods and have need for nothing', and know not that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked..."
To suppose, as we all suppose, that we could be rich and not behave the way the rich behave, is like saying that we could drink all day and stay sober. L.P. Smith: "To the rich almost everything in the world is make believe, they are always on stage and take for granted the presence of an admiring audience assuming that everybody else in the world plays a supporting role in the drama of his egotism."
It is clear that the rich will be overthrown in the last days and wealth given over to the poor. Those affluent Christians that are under the delusion that they will be taken up before this all comes to pass do not have such hope, or at the most, it is relegated to a superfluous position.
James: "Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted. But the rich, in that he is made low; because as the flower of the grass, he shall pass away." "But you have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats? Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which you are called?"
