Rhema

The Rhema is the spoken word. The Bible translates Logos and Rhema as the one word, "word", and it has confused those outside of prophetic congregations. The Rhema is the spoken word of God and denotes the teaching or utterances in which God through someone declares His mind. Rhema is the divine instruction by the preachers of the gospel, words of prophecy and prophetic announcement.

Many churches teach the "word" of God and pride themselves in teaching directly from the Bible. We are indeed to do this but so often the Rhema is ignored or even denied completely. A church in order will have the Rhema word of God having complete control over the service. The Rhema in the congregation is the spirit of prophecy, the word of knowledge, tongues and interpretation, the pastor speaking as if an oracle from God Himself. It is our responsibility in the five-fold ministry to encourage the release of the Rhema word and firmly ground it in the Logos word so that the congregation is truly in order and the Holy Spirit is in full control.

The same spirit that inspired the Old and New Testament writers is still with us today. If you truly believe in the Bible, then you must believe that Paul inspired him to write and he teaches us "Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that you may prophesy." None of the spiritual gifts died out after the New Testament was completed except in the ones that do not practice what the Bible teaches. They have a form of godliness but deny the power. The reason that the gift of prophecy is so important is for the protection that it provides against false doctrine according to the way it is set up, the prophets are subject to each other in the spirit. That means we must bear witness with each other but it has to be in the spirit. When God speaks through another person, it is not according the flesh but according to the spirit. That is only if it is truly in the spirit of the true God. Those others that also speak in the true spirit bear witness with the truth of the spirit and of the truth of the Bible. It never goes against the Bible but God does speak new things according to new situations. Your name may not be not mentioned in the Bible but another may have a word from the Lord just for you. Just because that name or any other word is not in the Bible does not make it any less true if it is in fact from the Lord.

God still speaks to those with the faith to be able to hear His voice. The word of God consists of what is from the Bible and also from the Rhema word, which is the same spiritual word from God that was given to the prophets of old which are recorded in the Bible. Study from the bible is the best way to learn about the things of God. But if the Bible is elevated to legalistic rules and regulations to follow beyond what the Holy Spirit teaches, it becomes according to the letter and is the same Pharisee spirit that Jesus came to deliver us from. The Bible cannot save you, only Jesus can save you.

The Bible teaches us but it is only through the power of the Holy Spirit that we can be taught right. If there is not that power, the Bible is misinterpreted, misrepresented, leads to confusion, legalism, extreme fundamentalism and puritan ignorance and is used as a tool for prejudice and self-righteousness and proof text for false doctrine. This is why there is so much division in the church and why the churches all have different teachings. The devil can quote scripture too. I believe in the Bible and obviously teach the Bible but it must be believed and taught in the power of the Holy Spirit through the spiritual gifts that God gives to us. Those that do not teach the spiritual gifts or despise the Rhema word are the ones that cannot come to agreement with the rest of the church. They are also the ones that will not bear witness to the Baptism of the Holy Ghost, resist revival movements and teach that the perfect has already come in the form of the completed Bible. They are not according to the Rhema word of God in its written or spiritual form.

Pastors and teachers through study may even know what the Rhema in scripture is and purposely hide the true interpretation from the flock. The Rhema word is clearly taught in the New Testament for those who know the Greek but false teachers will mislead the flock by teaching that these things refer to the written word. By doing this, they are denying the power of the Holy Ghost and bringing condemnation to themselves. God know their hearts, judgment is coming to the house of God.

A word is a thought that has been given physical expression. The nature and attributes of God are given to us through the Word or Logos of God, being the Bible. The Logos is identified with the will of God, or with the ideas that are in the mind of God. Jesus in the flesh is also understood as the incarnation of these divine attributes. The Bible is the divinely inspired, inerrant Word (Logos) of God. From here, however, it takes the Rhema of God to properly take that inspiration to inspire us and appropriate and understand the written Word, giving us true insight. Peter writes that "But know this first of all, that no prophecy of scripture is of one's own interpretation, for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God."

Rhema is the Word meditated on by the spirit through the study of the written word. It is the revelation given to us by God to help us understand and it is the prophetic articulation of that revelation to others in perfection.

Therefore the Rhema is that which is or has been uttered by the living voice, a spoken word or a word that has been taught. Here are some instances of the Rhema from the greek with the translations in italics. Your teaching begets eternal life. The word of faith which we are preaching. It is written, that man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God. Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the Words of eternal life. So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. That he might sanctify and cleanse it by the washing of water by the word. The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the spirit, which is the Word of God. But the word of the Lord endures forever. And this is the Word by which the gospel is preached unto you. For God has put it into their hearts to fulfill his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled.
