Justice

Justice and judgment are in the habitation of God's throne. God is love, therefore to seek justice is to seek the will of God. From this it follows that justice is the derived principle, while love is the creative principle. If justice is taken concretely, it means the laws and institutions in which love is embodied. A society is just if it renders to its people what is due them; the laws of the state, however may be unjust. A government based upon illiberal law and order irregardless of justice is an oppressive government. Mandatory minimum sentences, zero tolerance, imprisonment for non-violent offenses, police harassment of the poor, all combine to condemn this present generation and alienate the people against authority.

The choice of paying a fine or going to jail is simply bribery and extortion, the rich go free and the poor go to jail. The conservative right-wing insanity that typifies the nature of the beast is what Jesus will sweep away with His mighty arm. Justice has to do not so much with the quantity of good or evil, but in which the manner it is distributed. Retributive justice and punishment should certainly be considered but the essential points of justice and liberty remain the same. The Lord commands His children to keep the way of justice and judgment.

In the United States, our people always seem to want to go to war, If there is not another country to fight, the hatred and war-mongering will turn inward against our own people. Now a war is being waged upon 70 million of our own citizens who have admitted to drug use (unless you are running for President) and the war is escalating to other countries by the CIA. 400,000 nonviolent drug offenders continue to suffer behind bars in our nation's prisons and jails, many of them serving unjust sentences. The drug war is already lost because it is unjust, it is a losing battle and the unjust knows no shame, they are reserved unto the day of judgment. Drug users are only hurting themselves unless they are violent toward others or are thieves. The drug problem around the world is not a criminal problem, it is a moral and medical problem. If the money being wasted on this immoral war would be used to educate and treat these people, instead of incarcerating them and robbing them of their possessions and liberty, the next generation might have the wisdom to know better. To forbid, only makes the disobedient and rebellious nature of youth to experiment more alluring. And it makes criminals out of people that it should not. "None calls for justice, nor any pleads for truth. They trust in vanity and speak lies, they conceive mischief and bring forth iniquity... And judgment is turned away backward and justice stands far off."

The well known maxims of distributed justice are: 1. To each according to his need. 2. To each according to his worth. 3. To each according to his merit. 4. To each according to his work. 5. To each according to the agreements he has made. True justice is a spiritual force and dynamic. It is this dynamic force that gets people to do things. When justice truly gets down into the depths of our soul, the conscious perpetuation of injustice becomes impossible. Jesus is coming to establish justice in the earthly realm. The plain ordinary man and woman of today becomes the crusader of tomorrow and in the name of justice and equity, miracles are wrought.

"Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable," says Martin Luther King, Jr. "Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals."

Movements for social justice and efforts to aid the alienated, the oppressed, the weak and the poor have owed much to the sort of Christians and Jews motivated by Biblical exhortation and example. They are the doers of the Word and not hearers only. The prophets cry for justice, we remember the bondage of Egypt, we look to Jesus' example to the poor and outcast, these things all reach out for ideal justice. "Defend the poor and fatherless, do justice to the afflicted and needy." The bleeding heart of the liberal is the pulsating beat of Jesus Himself. Plans may differ and strategies may conflict, but the Biblical motives remains.

Solomon begin his proverbs by admonishing us to "receive the instruction of wisdom, justice and judgment and equity." He goes on to say that this instruction of justice is for the wise only, the fools despise it. It is through wisdom that justice is decreed and to do justice and judgment is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice. Jesus tells us that wisdom is justified of all her children.

If we are to have complete and total justice, which is the only justice worth having, every single member of the Bride of Christ must make an individual contribution. We are not as the foolish but we have trimmed our lamps with the oil of the Holy Ghost. This is not mere idealism until Jesus reigns supreme, it is those members of His body that have the seal of God that will bring God's justice to the world. Do judgment and justice and it will be well with us but do not and it is an abomination. We are to tear down the high places and establish justice. Albert Camus wrote that "I should like to love my country and still love justice." Amos wrote, "let judgment run down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream."
