The Establishment

The Establishment is the status-quo control elite military-industrial complex. With its old school ties, inherited wealth, upper class life style, position and privilege, it flourishes even in a democratic society.

The Institutions which the establishment "inhabits" are said to be: Harvard University; New York Times; Ford Foundation; Brookings Institution; The Council on Foreign Relations; The Committee for Economic Development; the Tri-Lateral Commission. Now it has become global with the World Trade Organization, the IMF and NATO and such. The establishment is also defined as a national force, outside government, dedicated to truth, liberty, and however defined, in the broad public interest. The truth is that they are merely lackies for the rich and powerful. Using the term civic establishment, we refer to the collective of the nation's law firms, its major foundations, its natural cultural institutions, influential civic organizations and prestigious private universities.

The origins of the establishment are ecclesiastic and aristocratic. The American origins is joined to both democratic and capitalistic institutions and traced its roots to the established church in Massachusetts. The nation's earliest democrats sought to insure that there should be "no establishment of religion" by writing these words into the First Amendment of the constitution. They were concerned with maintaining a public ethos, a civic morality emphasizing toleration, individual liberty, and goodness. It is not so today.

The establishment today runs along economic lines as well as military. According to US media and foreign policy critic, Edward S. Herman, "The NSS [National Security State] represents and serves the interests of a tiny elite. Its economic policies of "trickling-up", enforced by the machine gun, are rationalized on the ground that growth in the long run will trickle down to the lower orders. This is a self-serving ideology designed mainly to allow the western public to think well of themselves and their own country." President Dwight D. Eisenhower in his Farewell Address of 1961 warned us that "In the councils of government, we must guard against unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist." Protest movements in the sixties made the establishment a household word.

The United States wants to rule the world and it is through the establishment of its revered institutions and the right arm of its military that will dominate through the marketplace. Economist Edward S. Herman, writes "the establishment can't admit it is human rights violations that make... countries attractive to business -- so history has to be fudged, including denial of our support of regimes of terror and the practices that provide favorable climates of investment, and our destabilization of democracies that [don't] meet [the] standard of service to the transnational corporation..."

In the sixties it was fashionable to speak out against the military industrial complex. If the conservatives had listened to us then, we would not have the right-wing insanity and delusions so prevalent today. All in all, Christians elevated righteousness, the Bible, the church and religion all above Jesus and the ability to love. Everything became a white-wash and the luke-warm church set in as the example where they became the establishment and part of the world doomed to perish.

Jerome Weisner, president emeritus of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology makes a good remark in that, "It is no longer a question of controlling a military-industrial complex, but rather, of keeping the United States from becoming a totally military culture." Of course that is the totalitarian police state that the whole world is under with the One World Order led by the United States and the other heads of the beast. In America, our rights are being taken from us more and more every single day but it is being done by that part of the establishment which are affluent and powerful enough to be trusted regardless of the morality involved. The majority don't notice and as long as they are entertained, really don't care.
