proselytes

There were two classes of Jewish proselytes: Full proselytes, called "proselytes of righteousness" and the "proselytes of the gate." The full proselytes were circumcised, and enjoyed full communion with the synagogue. These proselytes were usually more fanatical than the native Jews.

The proselytes of the gate were half proselytes. The stranger that is within your gate is from Exodus 20:10. "But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates." These proselytes embraced the monotheism and Messianic hopes of the Jews without conforming to the Jewish ritual and circumcision. Without the legalism of the Jews, the proselytes of the gate were ripe for Christian freedom and the preaching of the gospel.
