Bishop Ananias

A Christian disciple of Damascus, Ananias was a devout man according to the law. Ananias restored the sight of Paul after his vision of the Savior. The Lord appeared to Ananias in a vision and bade him go to a street called straight and inquire at the house of Judas for Saul of Tarsus. Ananias had already heard what evil Saul had inflicted on the saints at Jerusalem but the Lord told him to "Go your way, for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles and kings, and the children of Israel. For I will show him how great things he must suffer for my name's sake."

Ananias put his hands on Saul and said, "Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus that apperared unto you in the way as you came, has sent me that you might receive your sight and be filled with the Holy Ghost. Paul, the new convert, received his sight, arose, was baptized, and preached Jesus as the Son of God in the synagogues.

Ananias was one of the seventy disciples that Jesus sent out and met martyrdom under Nero.
